Duncan MacLaren - Trustee
Duncan MacLaren has served on the Board of the Craighead Institute since 2014 and is an Associate of Faith and Praxis, an offshoot created by the foundress of the Institute. He was the first Executive Director of SCIAF/Caritas Scotland (Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund) and, after 13 years in the post, joined the staff of the General Secretariat of Caritas Internationalis, and served as Secretary General for eight years. After twelve years in the Vatican, he became a Visiting Professor at Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Sydney for six months and stayed six years, introducing a new degree in international development studies and taught it and Catholic social ethics at ACU until he returned to Scotland at the end of 2013. He completed his doctorate in theology at the University of Glasgow in 2019. He was made a Knight Commander of the Order of St Gregory the Great by Pope Francis in 2016 and is a lay member of the Dominican Order and a member of the International Dominican Justice and Peace Commission. He also serves on the Scottish Bishops’ Committee on Inter-religious Dialogue.
